SUMMARY:Groundcover Restoration Academy - Virginia
DESCRIPTION:Dates and Times \nTuesday June 2  12:00 pm – 5:00 pm\nWednesday June 3  9:00 am – 5:00 pm\n& Thursday June 4  9:00 am – 1:00 pm\n \n  \nGroundcover 201 will guide students through the principles and practices of restoring native plant species in longleaf pine systems.  Native groundcover provides numerous benefits in longleaf pine systems\, from wildlife habitat and food sources\, fuel for frequent prescribed fires\, host plants for pollinator species\, nutrient cycling\, and aesthetic benefits. But it can often be degraded\, or absent\, as a result of prior land use practices. \n  \nDuring the course\, students will gain the tools for planning and implementing their own groundcover projects through expert instruction from restoration practitioners\, land managers\, research scientists and producers. Plus\, field tours of local areas demonstrating these techniques. \n  \nTopics covered include: \n– Determining Restoration Needs\n– Seed Source Selection\n– Longleaf Pine Communities\n– Plants for Longleaf Restoration\n– Seed Collection\n– Site Preparation\n– Planting Methods\n– Maintenance and Management\n– Regional Conservation Projects \n  \nLodging\nHotel-style rooms are available at the Airfield Conference Center. Rooms are furnished with two (2) double or queen beds.
