SUMMARY:Fire & Longleaf 201 Academy
DESCRIPTION:Registration priority is given to those within the Lower Altamaha Project Area. \n  \nFire & Longleaf will guide landowners and natural resource professionals through the longleaf-specific considerations to address when planning to burn\, and contribute to achieving more desirable effects when managing with fire. Staff instructors from The Longleaf Alliance and partner agencies will guide participants through evaluating\, planning\, igniting and managing prescribed fires during this 2.5-day Longleaf Academy. \n  \nWeather-permitting\, there will be a demonstration burn\, or a tour of local areas being managed with fire. \n\nSponsored by: Georgia Forestry Commission\, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation\, Southern Company\, American Forest Foundation\, Natural Resources Conservation Service\, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and The Dobbs Foundation. \n\nThe Longleaf Alliance cares about the communities where we work.  As the Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to threaten the health and safety of those communities\, we want you to know we are responding by implementing the latest guidelines on holding in-person events. \n  \nSome of the ways we are making adjustments: \n– Facility layout has been arranged to allow for increased spacing among participants. \n– The facility will be kept clean and frequently disinfected throughout the event. \n– Hand sanitizing stations will be provided throughout the meeting room. \n– Food and beverage service mitigations will be in place to reduce handling of shared items. \n  \nWhat to expect when you attend: \n– Attendees will be required to wear masks while indoors or in shared vehicles-regardless of vaccination status. Masks will be provided at the event if you do not have your own. \n– Masks while outdoors will be optional but recommended where social distancing from others is not possible. \n– Attendees are encouraged to drive themselves to the field trip location associated with this event; event organizers have chosen sites with this in mind to reduce mileage and ensure for suitable road and parking conditions for all. If group transportation is made available\, masks will be worn by all vehicle occupants. \n– Persons who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 or have been directly exposed to COVID-19\, should not attend. Those who have tested positive for the virus within the last 14 days and/or are in the 14-day quarantine period are prohibited from attending in-person meetings or trainings. \n\nLandowner scholarships are available for low-income or underserved individuals.
