SUMMARY:Groundcover Restoration Academy - Georgia
DESCRIPTION:Groundcover 201 will guide students through the principles and practices of restoring native plant species in longleaf pine systems.  Native groundcover provides numerous benefits in longleaf pine systems\, from wildlife habitat and food sources\, fuel for frequent prescribed fires\, host plants for pollinator species\, nutrient cycling\, and aesthetic benefits. But it can often be degraded\, or absent\, as a result of prior land use practices. \n  \nDuring the course\, students will gain the tools for planning and implementing their own groundcover projects through expert instruction from restoration practitioners\, land managers\, research scientists and producers. \n  \n  \nFriday\, November 13 will be the field day at The Orianne Society Preserve in Lumber City\, GA \n  \nTopics covered include: \n– Determining Restoration Needs\n– Seed Source Selection\n– Longleaf Pine Communities\n– Plants for Longleaf Restoration\n– Seed Collection\n– Site Preparation\n– Planting Methods\n– Maintenance and Management\n– Regional Conservation Projects \n  \nLodging\nRooms are available at the Lodge at Little Ocmulgee State Park at a discounted rate of $120 per night for the nights of November 11th and 12th. \n  \nBook with Group Code 06681 under the “Rate Options” menu at the top of the page: Accommodations \n  \nSAF Credits pending. \n\nContact Karen Brown for more information:  \n803-607-5466 karen@longleafalliance.org \n
