SUMMARY:Longleaf Pine and Water Research Forum
DESCRIPTION:The Longleaf Alliance and partners are bringing together natural resource professionals\, researchers\, and experts to gather research happening across the range of longleaf pine and to work collaboratively to synthesize the state-of-the-science regarding the interactions of longleaf pine forests and water resources in the southeastern U.S.\, identify major uncertainties\, and understand the application of tools for water resource assessment with respect to longleaf pine forests.\n  \nThe eventual desired outputs from the meeting for those that would like to join the writing team are papers synthesizing water use by longleaf forests and modeling applications for assessing water resources. \n  \nAgenda \n\nDay 1 of the meeting will be from 9:30 am – 4pm at the Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center. \n  \nThe meeting will include sessions focused on: \n+ relationships of longleaf pine and water at various scales\, \n+ how silvicultural practices used to convert sites to longleaf pine affect water and biogeochemical processes\, and \n+ modeling applications – simulating the effects of LLP restoration/management on water resources \n+several facilitated discussions to better understand uncertainties and data gaps. \n  \nSpeakers include researchers from the US Forest Service\, The Jones Center\, Clemson University\, University of Georgia and more. \n\nDay 2 will include a field tour of the Watershed 77 paired watershed study in the Francis Marion National Forest  (9 – 11:30 am)\, followed by working group meeting to discuss the process and timeline for producing meeting products at the Santee Field Office (11:30 am – 1 pm). Lunch will be provided and all are invited. \n\nPoster Session \nThere will not be a formal poster session but space is available to display posters during the meeting so we encourage you to bring what you\, your colleagues\, or students have available. \n\nAccommodations \nThere is not a room block associated with this meeting but there are several options for accommodations in Mt. Pleasant\, SC.
