Raised in southern Virginia, Zach Henshaw developed an early appreciation for the outdoors that inspired him to pursue a career in wildlife management. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015, then worked in seasonal wildlife roles across the U.S. focused on ground-nesting game birds and prescribed fire. As a Red-cockaded Woodpecker technician with Georgia Department of Natural Resource, Zach worked with prescribed fire, longleaf pine habitat management, RCW monitoring, invasive species control, and forest stand improvement. In 2019, he joined the Jones Center at Ichauway, where he led RCW restoration, coordinated monitoring projects, supported outreach, and earned a Master of Science in Ecological Restoration from the University of Florida in 2022.

In his new role as Longleaf Conservation Coordinator with The Alliance, Zach is working to advance sound ecological forestry practices throughout southern Virginia, and collaborate with the Longleaf Cooperators of Virginia to expand longleaf restoration efforts across the region.
