Forage production on longleaf pine lands of southern Alabama

Forest lands are a very important source of grazing for cattle in southern Alabama, but the proper coordination of cattle grazing with timber-growing requires information on forage growth under various forest conditions. This paper reports the initial results of a study of forage production is influenced by timber stand, tree litter, forest types, and soils on the Escambia Experimental Forest, near Brewton, Alabama. The application of these results I mainly in terms of grazing capacity and forest range management.
