Gopher Frog

Gopher frogs are an at-risk species that was once found throughout the southeastern coastal plain. Adults depend on fire-maintained longleaf pine. They breed and develop in open-canopied, fish-free ephemeral wetlands. They are being considered for listing at the federal level.

The Longleaf Alliance is partnering with Dr. Stacey Lance at the University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to understand more about existing populations on state and private lands, support gopher frog breeding, and develop management recommendations.
