After pivoting to a virtual format for the Longleaf Academy Program in 2021, The Longleaf Alliance held our first Academy back in person in November!

We partnered with the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) to offer our “Fire & Longleaf Academy” in Waycross, Georgia. Highlights during the 2 ½ day event included hearing from our staff instructors as well as featured guest speakers from The Nature Conservancy, Tall Timbers, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and GFC.  The group of 20 students got to apply those lessons in the field during a tour of Dixon Memorial Forest and even observe a prescribed fire conducted by GFC staff.
